Our Story

The Mallinson family name dates back to the early 1900s with many of that time making a living in Yorkshire Mills as 'Cloth Dressers'. A career in textiles was reignited in 2019 by founder Ryan who created the brand shortly after the birth of his son Edward. Hailing from a working class suburb of Leeds, the business has been built on the craft of re-waxing and repairing wax jackets. Mallin & Son was born.

Beginning with friends and then independent customers, Mallin & Son started servicing high end jackets from Barbour, Belstaff, Burberry and all in-between for customers throughout the UK, all from a kitchen table in the heart of West Yorkshire.

The business soon became an authority on wax jackets for customers and enthusiasts across the globe. Leading manufacturers soon came onboard, partnering with the brand. The business then set up premises in our hometown of Ossett, Wakefield. Local and national press, TV, celebrities and a large social media following soon followed.

The brand ethos is all about investing in quality and taking care of it, trying to do our part in reducing the fashion industry's terrible impact on the environment. We can all do more. Mallin & Son want you to slow down and 'buy it once'.

A large skills gap appeared somewhere in the late 90s when kids in schools were funnelled down the avenue of 'Knowledge work'. We know because we were one of them kids. There's a gigantic skills gap now as we have seen first hand when our seamstress retired. Trying to replace was impossible and we soon realised it was a dying art. The tide is changing though as more young people turn to apps like Vinted and Depop over the high street and cheaper Chinese websites. They want their money to go further. We encourage this but also promote finding gems and repairing them for a new lease of life. If we can help inspire the next generation to think this way (starting at home with our own kids), then we will be happy.

We are more than a service or a product, we're a lifestyle brand for people who care about investing in quality.
