Made for Life | Peregrine x Mallin & Son

I often romanticise over the writing of chapters with absolute meaning yet a heavy lean on market appeal but early February took a turn at writing a new book.

I have far too many stories that I’ve never told (some I’ve told lots too) and they are all pinned together by the familiarity of the absurd. Calling people friends that I used to read about in books to working with brands I could never afford, all through deciding to wax a jacket one May evening in 2019.

My relationship with Peregrine goes back a couple of years following a brief email exchange where we became their chosen partner to look after repairs and reproofing for their customer. This alone was a big milestone as I’d always looked on in awe at what and how Peregrine do what they do.

Since then, we’ve seen so many of their jackets through the workshop and they are genuinely really good. The brand story strengthens this further with them all being made here in the UK.

Late last year I jumped on a call (I didn’t jump, I simply pressed ‘join meeting’) with the team to discuss the opportunities of working together in early 2026. Roll on a couple of months and I was welcoming them to the antique shop over the road from our office to capture lots of photos and awkwardly, film!

If you’ve been reading here a while, you’ll know of my constant internal sparring around standing in front of the camera and posing like all of your favourite Instagram influencers. You can imagine my thoughts at spending a very cold February morning slowly walking into shot, rubbing my hands and peering into the distance. I’m not complaining by the way, it was a lot of fun and the team were incredible in making me feel relaxed.

We were capturing the new seasons colours of their flagship ‘Bexley’ jacket, one of my personal favourites. It’s a jacket unique in design being that it sits aside from the usual Barbour Beaufort and Belstaff Trialmaster blueprints. For me, it’s the perfect jacket for someone looking for a Belstaff alternative as something a little smarter, more tailored. It reminds me of that well over used phrase, ‘Quiet Luxury’. It screams class yet the materials offer pure utility.

After a quick lunch break, it was back to the workshop for more filing and an interview. The interview is yet to go live at time of writing so look out for that one. Look out also for the lovely green wool jumper of theirs that I wore for the shoot that sadly they remembered I was wearing just before they left.

It was a genuine dream to work with such an esteemed brand like Peregrine, a brand I genuinely do truly admire as much for their design as I do for their ethics. I will always bang the drum for good people doing good things and Peregrine are certainly flag bearers for a world we need more of.
