Inspired by the Concorde
The school field opposite my house was full of people out to catch a glimpse of the famous Concorde as it descended into Leeds Bradford Airport.
I remember it being significant but it also very likely interrupted a game of football with friends. That was the late 1980's yet last year I found myself sat on a Concorde with my aviation obsessed 7 year old.
We made the trip to Manchester Airport to take the Concorde tour which included a good look around whilst the guides (and ex Concorde pilots) told us lots of stories.
One that really caught my attention was around the size differential between the jets.
Because of the era they were created, they were all built by hand which meant on one occasion one plane was a foot longer than the previous.
This was simply due to hands being on the 'thing' rather than computers or robots. It was perfectly safe and obviously passed all of the tests etc but I found it fascinating that they would differ.
I obviously linked it to the world I move in, fashion. Making everything by hand isn't possible but the idea that someone's hands have been used to create something holds a lot of value to me.
It means that time, hard work, learning and passion has been put into something that I may own.
I really thought about this a lot when making our latest batch of bags. I could source them from a factory and make them identical but I really like the idea of making them by hand, each being slightly different to the last.
It's hard work but it's also really rewarding. I hope you also feel the same. I often talk about chapters of our story and the only way we could get closer to that is by releasing a book.
I really hope you like them as much as I liked making them.
