All things considered...

All things considered...

It’s the Monday afternoon after a much needed night away to enjoy the delights of Ilkley. Arriving home with both a fresh mind and a fresh chest infection, I thought I’d take a moment to address something that’s been sitting at the back of my mind for a couple of weeks.

I’d never profess to a prophet when it comes to style, in fact I consider my own style quite boring. I admire those willing to push the envelope a little further than me though whenever I try to follow I feel silly.

In a style world that loves a label, Gorpcore, Rugged, Heritage, even gnomecore briefly, I found a word that I think sums up my own approach rather well.

I think the word ‘considered’ is just about perfect for my approach. Never brash, never loud, just…………. considered.

And on that, I’ll let you in on some of my considered secrets. They may find you reaching for the unsubscribe button or silently nodding along knowingly, like all considered men should do.

I simply can’t wear socks that don’t match my outfit, even though I know those socks will never be seen. I love a polo neck but can never wear a polo neck the same day I wear a flat cap. I won’t wear a cap with formal shoes or a short sleeve shirt with ‘workwear’ boots.

I won’t wear two types of check regardless of how much we all love a Ralph runway show. I like to wear a collar most days and wish I had more reason to wear a tie. I don’t and they would be too ‘extra’ for me.

My watch strap must compliment what I’m wearing and as my collection grows, I have one for every occasion. My aftershave must suit the weather and the event. Inappropriate footwear is a sin.

I think you get the picture.

So I tip my cap to my fellow considered men (and women) because whilst none of this actually matters in the real world, people like us know that it does.
